Rustic Wall Effect MDF Key Chain Holder

Hello dear friends. Vidhu Thareja back on the blog of Connect4Sale with another inspirational project. I personally love to design utility products. When it comes to gifting , utility product makes an ideal gift for any occasion. This time I have designed a keychain holder with rustic wall effect. I have a step wise tutorial so without wasting any more time, let’s start the tutorial. I have received a beautiful MDF base in my guest designer kit. I love the excellent finish and 8mm thickness of the base. There is no need to sand the base  .2) Since I am a decoupage crafter so i decided to do that on this base. As we all know, for decoupage we always need the base in white color, irrespective of the base color of decoupage tissue or paper. I prime the base with acrylic white gesso. 3} Now it is turn to select a paper or tissue for my project. I have received a beautiful set of CrafTreat Decoupage ‘Garden in my guest designer kit. This paper comes in a set of 8 coordinating design sheets which are printed on 54 gsm speciality paper and it is ideal for fussy cutting or hand tearing.

4) Out of 8 sheets i selected one design. I handtear the images because i wanted that blended finish. Do not use scissors to cut the image, as scissors give crisp edges. I adhere the images using mod podge matte. I leave it to dry and then applied a coat of mod podge.

5) Next step is to add some interest around the images. I apply mixed media paste through brick stencil. If you are beginner, seal the image with mod podge and vanish, before doing any work around the images. I have created some texture on the welcome.

6] I apply chalk paint on brick stenciling. I wanted to give rustic look to bricks so for that i have diluted the brown chalk paint and applied it here and there and wiped the chalk paint with tissue. I wanted to highlight the texture on the welcome, so for that first i apply green chalk paint and then rubbed metallic wax with finger.

7] When i am satisfied with the coloring part, I seal the project with 3-5 coats of varnish. Since wax works as a sealant also, so there is not much need to seal it with varnish. Lastly fixed the hooks, which comes with the base. A beautiful home decor is ready. Hang your keys or you can even hang cute mini baskets. It makes a perfect gift for house warming. I hope you like my project and find my tutorial useful. All the supplies used in this tutorial, are available on the Website of Connect4Sale. About The Artist

Vidhu Thareja is a crafter from Noida, born and brought up in Delhi. She had completed her studies from Delhi. She began her career as a freelance translator and worked with many reputed publications. She has also worked in the Insurance Sector for many years.

Due to personal reasons she had to give up her job, which actually turned out to be a blessing in disguise. The turning point came when she got the golden opportunity to work with Madura Coats Pvt. Ltd. as a Craft Consultant for their Anchor Thread Craft activities in reputed schools of Delhi/ NCR Region. Although it was not a very high paying job it gave her all the confidence and a feeling of fulfillment, which made her realize the crafter hidden in her.

Since her childhood she was very much interested in crafts. Growing up, there was not that much exposure to tv or computer and she used to do embroidery in her free time or during vacations. Her biggest inspiration was her mother who is her motivating force. At the time of conducting Anchor thread craft workshops, she started doing DIY activities and decided to learn more.

From then there was no looking back and today she is doing what she loves to do. Although every new technique and art form attracts her but Decoupage and Sospeso are the two crafts, that she enjoys the most. She never lost a chance to learn anything new because she believes that learning never stops.

She follows her fellow crafters because she feels every person teaches you something. To all upcoming crafters she has this to say “That whatever you do, do it with love and passion, follow others but make your own style statement. Be confident but never be over-confident. Share your knowledge, that is what makes you grow”.
